New year’s resolutions are all about self-improvement – and many of us promise ourselves we’ll focus on our health come January 1. If this sounds like you, then read on: We’ve rounded up some ways for you to get moving a little or a lot, and all of these suggestions are low-cost or free!

Fit St. Pete

Healthy St. Pete operates Fit St. Pete as part of the City of St. Petersburg’s Parks and Recreation Department, with local fitness pros instructing free workouts in parks throughout the city.

From cardio kickboxing to pickleball, Zumba to kayaking, and loads more, there really is a group for every interest, and many of the options are also open to kids or teens. Try Pilates in the Park, cardio drumming, or water aerobics to get your heart pumping, then cool down with yoga or a little tai chi. You can also walk, jog, or run along the Trail Fun Run, exploring hidden gems of the city, or join a Neighborhood Wellness Walks each month in multiple neighborhoods around town. For more information, visit healthystpetefl.com/get-fit. You will need to create a free Get Fit Membership online, then sign in for each class.

On the Waterfront

Sunset Yoga at St. Pete Pier.

You can’t live in St. Pete and not visit the Pier, and these free classes are a great reason to get some fresh air before shopping and dining. Enjoy Sunset Yoga, a Mat Barre Class, F45 training bootcamp, or Pilates, all at one of the city’s most picturesque locations. The Body Electric Yoga Company also offers a 10-mile group bike ride that promises a chill pace on the second Friday of the month, starting from the studio that often takes in some of our gorgeous waterfront. More information at visitstpeteclearwater.com.

St. Pete Beach Community Center

Prefer to get fit on the beach? Hop on the SunRunner that connects downtown to St. Pete Beach and you’ll also find low-cost fitness classes at the Community Center on Boca Ciega Drive. There you’ll discover Silver Sneakers classes for strength building and yoga, as well as regular classes like Toning & Fat Burning and Qigong. Wanna shake it up a bit? Try your hand at Zumba or beginners’ line dancing classes! More information at stpetebeach.org/764/Fitness-Classes.

Soak it In

Boyd Hill Nature Park offers miles of trails and a chance to see local wildlife.

We live in one of the most beautiful cities in Florida – and the country! – with a waterfront that stretches for miles. Getting moving doesn’t have to mean a major commitment, a gym membership, or even a class. Put on a pair of old sneakers and explore one of St. Pete’s nearly 200 parks, enjoy the trails and wildlife at Boyd Hill, or just take a stroll along beautiful Coffee Pot. Your body will thank you!

Be sure to call ahead or check the websites for full class descriptions, age or fitness level requirements, space availability, meeting locations, weather updates, and registration information.
